Monument

A board of hexagons in the dark. Three peoples move out into it, and the land only exists once someone has walked it.

II Monument at the opening: a hexagonal island sitting in darkness, only a handful of tiles turned up in green and sand at its edges, the rest unlit, ringed by pale teal water.
Opening. The board is unlit. Nothing is known until somebody walks it.
III Monument in midgame: much of the board turned up into forest, grassland and sand, with territory outlined in red and gold where two peoples have started to meet.
Contact. Every tile you take is a tile the others now cannot have.
IV Monument late in a game: the island almost entirely revealed in forest, grass, sand and stone, a pale monument standing near the centre, only a few dark tiles left at the margins.
Late. A monument stands where the dark was. It will outlast the people who raised it.

The studio

Kairo makes games you can reach in ten seconds and are still turning over an hour later.

It started from a small irritation. Almost everything you can play in a browser tab is about shooting something or steering something. There is no good reason a game that loads instantly can't also be quiet, and slow where it ought to be slow, and hard in the way a good problem is hard rather than in the way a reflex test is hard.

The name 回廊

Kairō is the covered walk that runs the four sides of a courtyard — a path whose whole job is to give shape to an empty middle. We took it for its shorter reading: the open path.
